What to expect when seeing the Nurse or Travel health pharmacist

  • You will be taken into our travel clinic consultation room
  • Our friendly Nurse will put you at ease
  • The Nurse is experienced in administering vaccinations and providing travel advice
  • You will be provided with relevant information according to your travel health risks
  • You will be informed of the essential vaccines and of any recommendations for vaccines based on your trip
  • You will have a discussion around your health questionnaire
  • Your first visit will last approximately 30 minutes (Groups of Travellers will be longer)

About your vaccinations

  • The website for information on Travel vaccines is fitfortravel.nhs.uk
  • Most people start the vaccine process on the day they come into the clinic
  • For some vaccinations more than one dose will be required
  • Some vaccines require up to 3 doses to complete the course
  • If there are no contra indications, you can start your vaccine program with us on your first visit
  • If you do have presenting health issues on the day i.e. a high temperature you may not be given vaccinations on the first day however the Nurse will keep you informed of your options

About the costs

  • As indicated to you on the phone some vaccines can be provided free of charge from your GP so this may be a good place to start your vaccine planning
  • If you cannot see your GP on time we can provide all of the vaccines, the nurse will give you the costs of the vaccines as you go through the consultation
  • You will be asked to pay for any vaccines or other items purchased at each visit. However, if you prefer you can pay in advance for all items
  • A £10 consultation fee is payable but will be waived if vaccines and/or anti-malarials are subsequently supplied on the same day.

What happens next

  • We will book your return appointments so you can finish your course, if required
  • You will be issued with a vaccine record card
  • Please note that most vaccines do have an expiry after which you will be advised to have them again

We hope this covers all you need to know about your forthcoming visit to our clinics.
